The programme for the evening is to start off with a Curry Supper at 7:30 pm, there will be an alternative to Curry (do advise if you are attending and have a dietary restriction).

Following the Curry Supper, we will move on to the Interactive Race Night, a fun alternative to the pre-recorded races, shown on a big screen, used at other race nights you may have attended.

Our Race Night is interactive using toy/model racehorses, a track and sets of poker dice. The moves of the horses are decided by a roll of the dice, thrown by the jockeys of the race (if present) or other attendees. The first race is on the "flat" and if the dice rolls with the "card" allocated to a horse the horse moves forward one square. This continues until the first horse crosses the finish line.  The next race will have a single jump introduced and to again moves are decided by a toss of the dice but to clear the fence it requires two dice to be cast for the horse.
Later races have more fences and even a water jump (3 dice to clear), the more fences and obstacles the more sets of poker-dice used. See the picture attached, which depicts two throws of the dice on a flat race (a picture paints 1000 words, hopefully).

There are six horses per race and six races so a total of 36 horses and of course 36 "jockeys", we "sell" horses at £5 per horse and the position of "Jockey" for the horses again at £5.
The owner and jockey of the winning horse win a bottle of wine. At the time of writing 9 members have supported the event by "purchasing “23 horses and 22 Jockeys, leaving 13 horses to sell and 14 jockeys. Please contact David Robertson if you wish to "buy" Horses and Jockeys and either pay by transfer directly to the lodge bank account or at next lodge rehearsal or meeting.  See the race programme attached for the horse owner and jockey slots still awaiting purchase. Owners and jockeys do not have to be present, so if you are unable to attend, because of pressing family or work commitments, you can still support the event by "buying" horses of Jockeys at £5 each.

We are pleased that all races have been sponsored, there is no prize for sponsors simply our gratitude for their generous contribution to the event.

It adds to the excitement and enjoyment of the evening if you have a flutter on the horse race by placing a bet or two, £1 per bet. There is a tote and if your horse wins you are refunded your bet plus a share of the tote.

We require, for catering purposes, to know how many tickets you wish to purchase for the Race Night, please do get this into your diary and invite along friends and family.  The dress code for the night is smart casual, reflecting the relaxed and fun evening you will enjoy, so once again please support the event. Payment for the tickets can be made directly to the Lodge Bank Account or at the rehearsal or next lodge meeting in cash.  But regardless of the payment method please do contact David Robertson by email/WhatsApp/Facebook Messenger to advise him of your booking requirements.

Any questions re the Race and Curry night or how to pay/ "buy" horses & Jockey positions just ask. Let us work together to re-invigorate the lodge social life and make the social a roaring success.

Yours sincerely and fraternally,

Brother David Robertson, PM
